James Farris "Pete" Smith of Melbourne, Arkansas

James Farris "Pete" Smith, son of the late William Henry Smith and Della May Brittnal Smith, was born May 9, 1935 in Cave City, Arkansas. He departed this life September 24, 2013 at his home in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 15 days. He spent his life as a son, brother, soldier, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. He was united in marriage to Eula Jean Brooks in 1961 and to this union five children were born. He served in the United States Army toward the end of the Korean War. He was an outdoors man and avid fisherman. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife: Jean Smith of the home; one son and daughter-in-law: Tim and Melissa Smith of Melbourne; four daughters and two sons-in-law: Marketta Smith of Russellville, Marieta "Sue" and Danny Condrey of Gid; Jacquta "Lolly" and Jeff Engles of Gid; and Benita "Fanny" Franse of Russellville; two brothers: Foster "Frog" Smith of Warren, Arkansas and Felix "Cat" Smith of Cave City; thirteen grandchildren: Mathew Stroud, Jeremy Stroud, Tamra Brightwell, Anthony Love, Dalton Condrey, Will Smith, Emily Smith, Sarah Shrum, Alex Engles, Kayla Cunningham, Cheyenne Conway, Derick Clark and Bobby Clark; eleven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Annette Qualls, Judy Barker, Geonna Powers; three brothers: Merdie Smith, Lucian Smith and G.L. Smith.
Funeral service will be Friday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel with Shannon Smith officiating. Burial will be at Reeves Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Thursday, September 2 from 6-8 p.m.
Pallbearers: Mathew Stroud, Jeremy Stroud, Anthony Love, Will Smith, Alex Engles, David Brightwell, David Shrum and Bradley Brooks.
Honorary Pallbearers: Bobby Clark, Derick Clark, Kayla Cunningham, Sarah Shrum, Emily Smith, Cheyenne Conway, Tamera Brightwell and Dalton Condrey.
