1938.

The Calico Rock Progress, Calico Rock, Arkansas, September 16, 1938:
Izard County Farmer Victim of Car Accident
Geo W. Smith, aged 55, farmer of the Lone Star community, seven miles southwest of Melbourne, died Tuesday from injuries in a car mishap, near Batesville, Saturday.
Owen Jones, 50, of near Twin Creek, this county, who was injured critically at the same time, is said to be showing improvement and is expected to recover.
Smith suffered a crushed skull and severe chest injury. He did not regain consciousness.
The two men were injured when they were caught beneath a load of potatoes on which they were riding when a truck owned by the Carter Truck Line of Mountain Home overturned. A tire blowout is given as the cause of the accident.
