Son of William "Billy" & Frances Elizabeth Henson Smith.
Married (1) Martha A. Love, December 11, 1883.
Married (2) Bettie Ann Crews, August 1, 1889, Izard County, Arkansas.

The Calico Rock Progress, Calico Rock, Arkansas, August 21, 1936:

James H. Smith aged 76 for many years a citizen of this section, died at his home near Pineville, Monday night. He had been in feeble health for the past several months and had been in a sanitarium in Batesville the past few weeks.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Elder D. A. Hively, burial being in Flat Rock Cemetery.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bettie Smith; six children; Columbus Smith of Maple Park, Ill., Mrs. Ruth McQuaid of Clinton, Iowa, Mrs. LaVada Massey, and Mrs. Edith League of Little Rock, Ark.; Thurman and Luther Smith of Pineville; two brothers, Dan H. Smith of Pineville, and Henry Smith of Harrison; one sister Mrs. Thomas Rhoades of Pineville and nine grandchildren.
