Daughter of John William Grace Delilah Pierce Mathis.
Wife of Ruble Raymond Smith.

Ruth Syrena Mathis Smith, daughter of the late John William and Grace Delilah Pierce Mathis, was born on April 6, 1916 in Violet Hill. She died September 21, 2001 in Salem at the age of 85 years old.

Ruth was united in marriage to Ruble Raymond Smith. To this union two children were born. She spent her life as a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a member of the Forest Chapel Methodist Church in Violet Hill.

Ruth leaves to mourn her passing two daughters and sons-in-law; Shirley G. and Levern Garner and Betty Lou and Bobby Lee McCollum all of Violet Hill; one sister, Billy Jean Moser of Orando, Washington; two brothers, Remmel Mathis of Prosser, Washington and William Mathis of Wiseman; six grandchildren: Pamela Suzzanne McCollum, Elizabeth Lee Smith, Don Robin McCollum, Carrie Lynn Holborn, Carla Ruth Smith and Larry Gene Smith, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Doyle and Burl Mathis, one sister Carmie Bookout; two infant sisters and one infant brother.

Graveside services were held September 23, 2001, at the Violet Hill Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.

Pallbearers were: Billy Thomas Smith, Toby Smith, Jerry Lee Bookout, A. G. Garner, Ed Luedtke and Melanie Meinzer.
