Mrs. Janie Smith Dies at Home Here After Long Illness
Mrs. Janie Smith, for several years a resident of Calico Rock died at her home here Saturday, following a long illness. She was born in this county July 17, 1888 being 64 years, ten months and 13 days of age.
She was married to Elmer Harkleroad, who preceded her in death by several years. In January 1920 she was married to Wiley F. Smith of Oxford. They moved to Calico Rock over 20 years ago. Mrs. Smith was devout member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Wiley F. Smith of Calico Rock; two sons, Olaf Harkleroad, Hale Center, Texas and Vaden E. Harkleroad, Fort Smith, Ark.; two daughters, Mrs. Ima Jean Bowers, Little Rock, Ark., and Mrs. Veda Estes, Wasco, Calif.; two step-sons, Kirby F. Smith, Lake View, Ark., and Red N. Smith, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two step-daughters, Miss Marie Smith, Oklahoma City and Mrs. Velma Walker, Lansing, Mich.; one brother, John W. Welch and one sister, Mrs. Alice Blankenship both of Byron, Ark., and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ here at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon by Elder Frank Puckett. Following graveside services burial took place in Oxford Cemetery, with the Hall Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
Pall bearers were: T. J. Puckett, A. H. Matthews, Hale Garner, Cecil Brumitt and Ernest Wiseman.
