Floyd "Sonny" Smith Jr., son of Annie Guthrie Smith and Floyd E. Smith, was born June 28, 1932 in the Optimus community. Sonny departed this life on July 13, 2010 at the age of 78. He attended school at Optimus and Calico Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred Lamb and Ruth Ann Russell.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 58 years, Winona; four children, Alan and wife Pam; Phyllis, Randy and wife Kim; Beverly and husband Greg; grandchildren, Morgan, Grant, A.J., Chris, Marshall, Morgan, Max, Caitlyn and Nicholas; three sisters, Merle Richardson and husband Marvin, Madelyn Hamby, Paula Nordrum and husband John, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He had several job interests, but his devotion to heavy duty machinery (preferably a Caterpillar Bulldozer) became a lifelong job he truly loved.

Winona Freeman Smith of Calico Rock, Arkansas

Winona Freeman Smith, daughter of the late Walter Freeman and Alice Seawright Freeman, was born March 14, 1932 in Culp, Arkansas. She departed this life March 14, 2016 at the age of 84. She was united in marriage to Floyd Smith, Jr. December 24, 1951. She spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. She was baptized at an early age into the Mennonite Church and later was baptized into the Baptist faith. As a young lady, she spent time in Kansas City, caring for a physician’s home and family. She had an amazing life of love, of God, prayer and faith. Her husband, children, grandchildren were the center of her life, she cherished time spent with them. She loved flowers, crocheting and making quilts.

She is survived by four children: Alan Smith (Pam) of Houston, Phyllis Smith of Calico Rock, Randy Smith (Kim) of Scottsdale, Arizona and Beverly Moudy (Greg) of Plano, Texas; five siblings: Roy Freeeman of Calico Rock, Marie Beavers of West Plains, Missouri, Mary Lou Yoder of Iowa, Calude Freeman of Calico Rock and Ruth Franklin of Sherwood; six grandchildren: Morgan Smith (Emily), A. J. Smith (Jayne), Christopher Smith, Grant Smith, Nicholas Moudy and Caitlyn Moudy; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother: Troy Freeman and one sister: Norma Quinn.

Memorial service will be Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Calico Rock with Kevin Bishop officiating. Visitation will began at 12 noon.
