DAVIS, Mary Eleanor HANER - Mrs. Mary E. Davis passed away Thursday, Aug. 23rd at 11:45 a.m. after an illness of about six weeks, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Neuenschwander, north of Bella Vista, at the age of nearly 86 years. Complications and old age caused her passing. She had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wilmot Clark thru the winter until in May when she went to the Neuenschwander home for the summer. Mrs. Mary Davis, whose maiden name was Mary Eleanor Haner, was born in McClain county, Illinois Oct. 3, 1842. She grew up to womanhood there in her native community and was married to Thomas Crumley Davis Sept. 25, 1860. They lived there until 1909 when they came to Arkansas to make their home. After a brief stay with a daughter in Fort Smith they went to the state of Washington in the fall of 1910. Mr. and Mrs. Davis returned to Arkansas in 1913 and settled on a farm six miles west of Bentonville. They continued to live on the farm until failing health on the part of Mr. Davis caused them to move to Bentonville. They continued to live with their daughters here and in Fort Smith until Mr. Davis passed away Feb. 23, 1924. Since that time Mrs. Davis had made her home with her daughters. Mrs. Davis was raised in the faith of the United Brethren and united with that church in Fairbury, Ill. early in life. She joined the Methodist church with her husband after their marriage. She removed her membership to the Methodist Community church at Centerton when settling there and was a member of that church at the time of her death. Funeral services were held on last Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the home of Mrs. Clark, the Rev. A.W. Henderson, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial followed immediately after the services in the City cemetery. There were six children in her family, three of whom - a son and two daughters - have gone before her with their father. Mrs. J.A. Neuenschwander, who lives north of Bella Vista; Mrs. Etta Winters of Sauenemin, Ill. and Mrs. Wilmot Clark of Bentonville, her daughters, survive as well as many other relatives to mourn her loss.
