Rogers Man Killed Friday
In Accident Of Car-Truck
A 77-year-old Rogers man was killed at 4:30 p.m. Friday in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 71 four miles west of Rogers. Basil Austin Davis, 221 W. Cherry St., Rogers, died as a result of injuries he received when the car which he was driving collided with a truck driven by Gary Holtgrewe, 27, Rt. 4, Bentonville. Holtgrewe was not injured.
According to Arkansas State Trooper William Robbins, who investigated the accident, Davis was making a left turn from a private drive onto U.S. 71 when he pulled directly into the path of Holtgrewe's truck. Davis died at Rogers Memorial Hospital about two hours after the accident.
Davis was born June 23, 1896, near Cave Springs. He was a veteran of World War One. Semi-retired at the time of his death, he had been a barber in Rogers since 1919, when he established his first barber shop. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
The son of Charles L. Davis and Eliza Ratliff Davis, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Cora Barnes Davis, of the home; a son, Charles A. (Chuck) Davis, Rogers; a brother, Claude Davis, Rogers; a sister, Mrs. Delia Fagala, Cave Springs; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Rogers with the Rev. Dean Newberry, the Rev. Everett Bland, and the Rev. Winfred Bridges officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Baptist Church Men's Bible Class. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery.
The family requests that those who wish to may donate to the Latta Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church of a Rogers.
