DAVIS, A.J. - A.J. Davis died at his home on West Walnut St., this city, on Tuesday evening, November 27, aged seventy—seven years and eleven months. He was born at Georgetown, Kentucky December 15, 1822, but removed to Illinois in 1856 and later to Missouri, then to Arkansas. Most of his life was spent as a merchant. He was a remarkable example of well preserved old age but had suffered some time of Bright's disease of which he died. The funeral service was held at the residence yesterday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. R. Jackson, pastor of the Christian church of this city. Mr. Davis leaves a wife, three sons and two daughters. The children live too far away to attend the funeral. R.H. Davis lives at Mt. Vernon, Mo.; A.J. Davis, Jr. at Weiser, Idaho; H.P. Davis at St. Louis, Missouri; Mrs. Elizabeth Lucy at Independence, Ky. and Mrs. A.M. Merrill in this city.

DAVIS, Cordelia Jane BAILEY - Mrs. C.J. Davis died at ten o'clock Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.M. Merrill, on South Sixth street, after a long illness. She was perhaps the oldest resident of Rogers, lacking only a few months of being ninety years old. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. P.B. Hall, pastor of the Christian church. Interment was in the city cemetery beside the grave of her husband, A.J. Davis, who died some twelve years ago. Mrs. Davis had been confined to her home so long by illness and feeble health and especially by failing eyesight, that she was not known to the newer residents of the city but she had long been a member of the Christian church here and she was well known to the older members of that denomination. She was a very patient sufferer and her Christian fortitude was a lasting blessing and example to all who knew her. Cordelia Jane Bailey was born March 30, 1823 near Georgetown, Kentucky and died at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 3 days. She married Andrew J. Davis July 9, 1844. To them were born 8 children and she outlived them all except three, Arthur J. Davis of Kansas City, Mrs. Bettie Lucy of Independence, Ky. and Mrs. A.M. Merrill of this city. She united with the Christian church in Ky. in 1841 in the days when that denomination was new and attended the famous debates between Alexander Campbell and his opponents. In 1856 she and family removed to Macomb, Ill. and in 1870 went to New London, Mo. and afterwards moved many times but has for the most of the time for the past twelve years made her home in Rogers. During a long lifetime she has been a witness to the rise of most of the marvels of our civilization. She was born during the seventh year of the presidency of James Monroe, united with the church during the first year of William Henry Harrison, was married during the last year of the presidency of John Tyler. During her long life she has remained an enthusiastic communicant of the church of her choice.
