PIONEER THRESHER DEAD

Henry Smith, said to be the oldest threshing machine operator in Benton county, died Saturday at the home of his son, Dock Smith, one and one-half miles northeast of Cave Springs, following a long illness. Death was due to dropsy and heart trouble. He was past 80 years old the greater part of his life had been spent in Benton county. He was one of the first men to operate a threshing outfit and has probably threshed more grain than any other man in the county, not excepting Joe Geddings of Colville.

Funeral services were held Sunday and burial made in the Mt. Hebron cemetery.

He is survived by four sons, Dock, Garland, James and John.

JAMES HENRY SMITH

James Henry Smith was born July 6, 1853, in North Carolina and died March 17, 1934, at his home in Benton County, Arkansas, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 12 days. He was married to Miss M. A. Shaffer September 6, 1877, and moved to Benton county about 1881.

To this union was born five children, three boys and two girls; John, Garland and Jim, all near Cave Springs; Mary Jane and Rosa Belle of which are dead.

The mother of these five children died September 13, 1895. Afterwards he was married to Millie Gaston. To this union was born one girl which died in infancy; one boy Dock Smith, who lived with him at his home at his death.

He leaves thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

He was laid to rest in the Mt. Hebron cemetery, Rev. E.W. Durban of Gravette, officiating.
