PASSING OF MRS. ALLIE SMITH FOLLOWS BRIEF ILLNESS

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Jackson Smith, aged 58, wife of Allie Smith, and member of a widely known pioneer Benton County family, who died at her home near Highfill, this county Thursday morning, Feb. 20th, 1936, following a four days’ illness from influenza complications, were held at 2:30 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, at Highfill, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Poe Williams, assisted by the Rev. Bagby of Cave Springs. Burial was in the family plot at the Barron cemetery near Vaughn, southwest of Bentonville.

Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late George and Emmaline Weatherly Jackson, pioneer residents of the Morning Star community, southwest of Bentonville, where she was born. She had lived in this county all her life and a wide circle of friends sincerely regret her passing.

Beside her husband, Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons, Dick and Vol, both of Highfill, and Jack now living in Oklahoma. She also is survived by two brothers and two sisters. They are Will D. Jackson, city marshal of Bentonville; Robert Jackson of near Highfill; Mrs. John Riley of Siloam Springs, and Mrs. Margaret Sumpter of Kansas City, who lately had been staying with Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Other survivors include the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dick Smith of Highfill.
