SMITH, James B. - James B. Smith died last Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock at his home in this city on North Second street after an illness of only a few days with pneumonia. He was a Democrat caller only a week previous to his death to discuss matters relating to his announcement as a candidate for city marshal and his sudden death came as a great shock to his many friends here and at Bentonville. Funeral services were held at the residence here on Friday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. E.M. Dugger of the First M.E. church and the body was taken to Bentonville for interment. Services were conducted at the cemetery by the Odd Fellows. Mr. Smith was a native of Tennessee, having been born at Nashville, that state, and at the time of his death was 59 years, 4 months and 20 days old. He came to Benton county about forty years ago and settled at Pea Ridge where he lived many years before moving to Bentonville. Mr. and Mrs. Smith came to Rogers three years ago to be near their daughter, Mrs. Ellery Howard. He also has one daughter, Mrs. J.F. Bussey of Coffeyville, Kan. Mrs. Smith will make her home in the future with her daughters. Wm. Smith, father of the deceased, who had been making his home with him, has gone to Lowell to live with his daughter, Mrs. J.L. Jackson. He is 96 years old and quite feeble.
