Johnie Stanley Jones died Jan. 20, 2005, at Rogers. He was born April 26, 1907, in Silverton, Texas, to Alexander Jackson Jones and Maggie Viola Watson Jones. He left home at age 13 to work to support himself and his patents. He worked in pipeline construction and the Texaco oil refinery in Amarillo, Texas, where he also played semipro baseball.
He was a farmer west of Centerton for 50 years except for working two years for Continental Motors building airplane engines in Detroit during World War II. He retired from farming and moved to Rogers at the age of 75.
He was a longtime member, teacher, deacon and treasurer of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Centerton and was later a member of Temple Baptist Church in Rogers and Cornerstone Baptist in Bentonville.
Johnie was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Nettie Perkins Jones and Alice Rowena Blackwell Jones, great-grandchild Sarah Jones and three brothers, Paul, Dock and Glen.
Survivors are daughters, Melba J. Wells and husband Harold of Tulsa, Okla., Martha R. Cobb and husband Steve of Henryetta, Okla., sons, John Stanley Jones Jr. and wife Louise of Mesa, Ariz., and Russel D. Jones and wife Vivian of Rogers; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family and friends will be at 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan, 24 at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 at Temple Baptist Church in Rogers with Elder J.B. Manning officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Penn, Kermit Williams, Brent Cobb, Kevin Jones, Harold Ray Wells, Kenny Paget, Michael Jones and James Rountree.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity or to the UA ABS Student Center, 1005 S. California Blvd., Fayetteville. 72701.
