Benton County Democrat

Mr. Joseph W Jones was born at Granger, Mo. June 6th, 1859. In 1895 he moved to Benton county, Arkansas and located on his present home farm four miles southwest of Bentonville. Here he has lived during the past fifteen years, a respected citizen of our county. About nine months ago he moved to Bentonville on account of failing health. After much patient suffering he passed away on July 6th, 1910, aged fifty-one years. In 1894 Mr. Jones was united in marriage to Miss Mattie Orr. Time has shown this to be a true marriage, one that has brought much happiness and blessing to his life. If there was one element in his character more marked than another it was his genuine affection for his wife and daughter. Their society satisfied him and he was plainly "proud of them." They have fully recriprocated his devotion to them. During his long illness they left nothing undone that could minister to his comfort. About twenty years ago Mr. Jones gave his heart to God and united with the Methodist Church of Granger, Mo. After living there ten years in the church with brothers and sisters he came away but never removed his membership from the old home church. In a conversation with the writer two months before his death he claimed to be a member still of the Granger church and confessed Christ as his only hope of salvation. Mr. Jones was a devoted husband, a kind father, a pleasant friend, a good neighbor and walked uprightly with the children of men. Three brothers and two sisters survive him. His mother preceded him in death only two months. One brother, Mr. Harry Jones of Memphis, Mo. was present to help smooth the dying pillow. Appropriate funeral services were held at the home July 7th in the presence of a large audience of sorrowing friends. Many followed to the city cemetery where the interment took place. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his beloved wife and daughter and brother and to all his relatives and friends, who are bereaved by this death. W.S. Baker, Pastor.
