SPRINGDALE — Jack C. Smith age 65, of Springdale, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born March 9, 1944 in Lowell, Arkansas to Fred A and Minnie E. Smith.
He was a Baptist and baptized at an early age.
He is preceded in death by twin sons, Dwayne Alan and Warren Lee Smith; his parents; three brothers, Delmar, Johnnie and Freddie Smith; one sister, Violet McGowen.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Dorothy Carver Smith of the home; one son Terry D. Smith of Springdale; three grandchildren, Michael Smith of Springdale, Christy Latham and husband Andrew of Springdale, Cody Smith of Springdale; two great-granddaughters, Courtney and Alyssa Latham; one brother, Joe Smith and wife Judy of Springdale; four sisters, Maxine Bookout of Bentonville, Lois Miser of Kansas, Marilyn Hale and husband Larry of Springdale and Sherry Stevens and husband Jake of Elm Springs; and a host of nieces, nephews and lots of extended family and friends.
He worked as warehouse manager at NWA Paper Company, drove a truck for Manley and Batesville Truck Lines before starting his own trucking-Diamond S Trucking and currently was working for Dandy Oil Company. He was a member and past president of SRC and OJRA. He announced Rodeos for several years, always enjoyed working with the young kids and enjoyed using his score boards and timers at Rodeo and timed events. He and "Big Red" were always ready to pull floats, haul and do whatever he could for the Norman Bryant Foundation.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home, Springdale.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home Chapel, Springdale.
Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Cody Smith, Jim Carver, Tim Carver, Kenneth Todd and Thomas Maze.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Norman Bryant, Ken Bates, David Hoffarth, Jackie Moore, Dale Carver, Larry Hale and Jake Stevens with Brother Jackie Hoffarth officiating.
Committal Service to follow at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Norman Bryant Foundation, P.O. Box 154, Farmington, AR 72730.
