SPRINGDALE — On Thursday, July 1, 2004, Audie Smith, age 91, went to be with her Lord surrounded at home by her family. She fought a good fight through a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease.

She married Otto Smith on Aug. 21, 1932. They were privileged to enjoy 59 years together. Otto preceded her in death on April 5, 1992. A son, James Donald, went to be with the Lord in October 1951, and sister, Belia Downey of Springdale, in 1998.

Audie showed God's love in everything she did, as a wife, mother and a Granny. Whether it was sitting with a sick grandchild, taking food to a neighbor or baking hot rolls for whomever came to visit. You never came to Granny's house that you didn't eat or take something home with you.

Survivors include one sister, Thelma Hobbs of Springdale; and three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Pauline) Shell of Broken Arrow, Okla., Mrs. Danny (Eulene) Couch and Mrs. Huey (Betty) Couch, all of Springdale; seven grandchildren, Sherri Planchon, Kelly Cline, Brian Couch, Brent Couch and Ricky Couch, all of Springdale, and Misty and Travis Shell of Broken Arrow, 16 great-grandchildren, Shane Logan, Travis Lee Shell, McKenzie Dentis, Kalyssa and Ion Shell, Dakota, Colton and Cooper Couch, Stephen Cline, Addison, Annie and Aubrey Couch, Hayden, Raegan, Carson and Kinley Couch.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2004, at Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Springdale with the Rev. Jason Scott, Brian Couch and Ron Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Crouch, Brian Couch, Brent Couch, Huey Couch, Shane Logan and Donnie Burke.

Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Couch, Robert Shell and Bud Planchon.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 4 at Sisco Chapel in Springdale. The family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m.

We, the family, wish to express our sincere gratitude to the caregivers who she loved dearly, Ruth Holloway, Bonnie Vornado, Donna Corr, special nurse Diane Henrichson and all the hospice staff.

Memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 610 E. Emma Ave., Springdale, 72764.
