PRAIRIE GROVE — Virgil LaVaun Smith, 76, of Prairie Grove died March 5, 2005, at City Hospital in Fayetteville. He was born May 21, 1928, at Hugoton, Kan., to Merritt Bruce and Nina Seibert Smith.

He owned the Smith Cabinet Shop until his retirement. He bred registered Santa Gertrudis cattle, built custom homes and enjoyed extensive traveling in 46 states. He was a deacon in the Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Gilbert Smith of the home; four sons, Virgil Glenn Smith of Prairie Grove, Walter Bruce Smith of Sapulpa, Okla., Dr. James Craig Smith of Marian, Ill., and Robert Douglas Smith of Prairie Grove; two brothers, Don Smith of Wichita, Kan., and Carlos Smith of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, with Cotton McKinney and Leroy Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the Farmington Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Walter Bruce Smith Jr., Steven Glen Smith, Robert Stephen Smith, John Gregg, Tom Gregg and Dale Turn.
