FAYETTEVILLE — Alfred "Al" Smith, 84, of Fayetteville died Jan. 7, 2004, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born March 13, 1919, in Westville, Okla., to Joshua and Martha Yarberry Smith. He was a representative of Sunshine Biscuit and Griffen Grocery Co. He co-owned and managed the Downtown Market in Fayetteville during the 1960s. In later years, he was employed by Wal-Mart until he retired in 2003. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a gardener and made white oak baskets. He was a member of University Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Tackett Smith; two daughters, Connie Tinker of Springdale and Jeanie Clinehens of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at University Baptist Church with Garey Baxter and the Rev. Manley Beasley officiating.

Burial will be in Sonora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville,

FAYETTEVILLE — Ruby Maxine Smith, 87, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, in Fayetteville. She was born May 11, 1924, in Fayetteville, to the late William Henry Tackett and Elizabeth Gauldin Tackett.

She worked at Campbell-Bell department store for many years and was also a real estate agent. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing bridge and preparing wonderful meals for her family and friends. She was a lifetime member of University Baptist Church and Merry Hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Isam Smith; and son-in-law, William "Bill" Tinker.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Tinker of Springdale and Jeanie Clinehens and husband, Charles Clinehens Jr., of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Holly Waddle, Chad Clinehens, Olivia Witherspoon and Kimberly Clinehens; and four great-grandchildren, Logan Waddle, Lauren Clinehens, Lillie Clinehen's and Samuel Witherspoon.

Visitation was held Monday, May 16, 2011, at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville.

A celebration of life was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the University Baptist Church of Fayetteville, with Pastor Mike Bedford officiating. Interment at Sonora Cemetery followed.
