JACKSON, Jim - {from The Bentonville Sun} This city was terribly shocked yesterday morning, Thurs., to hear that City Marshal Jim Jackson had been killed last night about 1 o'clock. He was in the Central office and took a bucket and went down stairs to the hydrant to get a bucket of water and while stooping over to turn on the water his 45 colt revolver fell from his inside pocket and struck the curbing, causing it to explode, the ball entering the left eye near the nose and passed through the head lodging in and breaking the skull. Walter Davis was in the office at the time the shot was heard and hastily went down and found him laying on the side walk. A physician was hastily called and all that was possible was done for him, but to no avail. He was unconscious up until 7 o'clock this morning at which time he expired. It is a remarkable coincidence but some time ago his pistol fell in the same manner and was discharged and on last evening just a short while before he was killed he spoke of having his pocket fixed as he was always afraid to to stoop over for fear of dropping his pistol. He had made an excellent officer during his short term and is held in the highest esteem by his friends and the citizens of this city. He was 35 years old and leaves a wife and family, a generous good hearted man, always ready and never shirking a duty that came before him. In his death the city loses a most efficient and conscientious officer; his family a kind and loving husband. To them we extend our most sincere sympathy.
