FUNERAL OF J. MACK JACKSON WAS HELD HERE MONDAY

Funeral services for J. Mack Jackson, aged 68, widely known native citizen of Benton County and a descendent of prominent Northwest Arkansas pioneers of a century age, who died at his home al 314 A. Street, S. W., at 8 o’clock Saturday morning, Feb. 29th, 1936, following several months of illness, were held at 11 o’clock Monday morning at the Albright Funeral Home here, conducted by the Rev. J.Abner Sage, Jr., pastor of the Bentonville Methodist Episcopal Church, South, of which Mr. Jackson had for many years been an active member. Funeral music was by a quartet composed of the Rev. Sage, Mrs. Sage, Mrs. Arch Wright and Buel B. Spencer, with Mrs. Florence Gladden accompanist.

Interment was in the family lot at the Bentonville cemetery, and the pallbearer were E.O. LeFors, Char. D. Haney, Vol T. Lindsey, G.N. Pickens, Robert Buchanan and Luther E. Harrison. The Albright Funeral Home of Bentonville directed the funeral arrangements.

Mr. Jackson was born on the old Jackson homestead near Bentonville on March 1st, 1868, and had spent practically all his life in this vicinity. He was a son of the late Andrew Jackson, Confederate veteran and prominent citizen of this section, and the late Elizabeth Thomason Jackson. He was a grandson of James Jackson, who came from Tennessee to Northwest Arkansas 105 years ago, settling here in Benton County on a homestead two and a half miles west of Bentonville, part of which is still in possession of some of his descendents. Mr. Jackson’s mother was a daughter of James Thomason and wife, who came from Tennessee and settle at Sulphur Springs in the northwestern part of this county more than 100 years ago.

Mr. Jackson was in the real estate business here for many years and for 16 years was a justice of the peace. He served for many years as an official of the local Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He was considered an authority on Benton County history and pioneer family of this region.

Beside his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Baxter Jackson, he is survived by one son, Leo Jackson of Phoenix, Ariz., and one daughter, Mrs. Leon Browder of Bristow, Okla.; a brother John T. Jackson, Bentonville merchant, and by two grandchildren, Jack and Merion Browder of Bristow. Among well remembered members of his immediate families who preceded him in death are a daughter, Miss Pearl Jackson, a brother Ern B. Jackson, prominent farm owner of this section and a half brother, George P. Jackson, widely known Bentonville merchant and banker, all of whom died several years ago.
