March 2, 1934- January 19, 2019
Nathaniel Smith, more affectionately known as “Frat” by his family, was born March 2, 1934, to Rev. Willie J. Smith and Gracie Lee Meekins Smith. He is a graduate of Smith High School, Norphlet, Arkansas. After graduation, he became employed by the Clark Barton family and was employed 54 years before retiring. He served on the Board of Directors of Andrews Funeral Home, Inc. and was currently serving as a Board Member and Officer.
When he was very young, Nathaniel confessed a belief and hope in Jesus Christ and united with New Providence Baptist Church, Norphlet, Arkansas, where he served faithfully until his health began to fail.
Nathaniel and Ollie M. Gatlin were united in marriage on April 26, 1954. This year would have marked their 65th Wedding Anniversary. To this union, five children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Grover Smith and a son, Robert Earl Smith.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Ollie Mae Smith, of El Dorado, Arkansas; a daughter, Lenora Smith Newsome (Carlton), of Smackover, Arkansas; four sons, Nathaniel J. Smith (Deborah) and Charles D. Smith, of Smackover, Arkansas; Clark B. Smith (Denise) of El Dorado, Arkansas; and Edward “Ray” Smith (Louise) of Little Rock, Arkansas; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He also leaves a very caring sister-in-law, Mary Ann Goodwin, of El Dorado, Arkansas; three brother-in-laws, Billy Gatlin, of Rockford, Illinois, James Gatlin, of Flint, Michigan, and Lacy Smith, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at New Providence Baptist Church, Norphlet, Arkansas. Burial will be held at a later date. Public visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home.
