May 15, 1898 - January 3, 1969
Claude B. Smith, 70, of 802 Haynie Ave., died Friday morning in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born May 15, 1898, in Bastrop, La., and was the son of Claude and Rosa Clark Smith. A resident of El Dorado for over 65 years, he had been chief clerk for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Frances Murray Smith; two step sons, Joe Murphy of Houma, La., and P. W. Murphy of El Dorado; a sister, Mrs. Ione Miears of El Dorado, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Rumph Mortuary with the Rev. Jack Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Hugh Delona, Joe Baggett, Bruce Brumley, Treavor Ingram, Bruce Nelson and Earl Cook. Honorary ones will be employes of the Rock Island Railroad.
