Funeral services for Charles Lavell Smith, 36, of 612 Euclid St., will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Young's Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Taylor officiating, assisted by the Rev. C. R. McCollum. Mr. Smith, a prominent building contractor, was drowned in Whittington Lake, near Benoit, Miss., Wednesday when the boat in which he was crossing the lake swamped. Born Aug. 31, 1929, at Huttig, Mr. Smith had spent his life in Union County. He had resided in El Dorado for the past several years where he conducted his construction business. He was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church, and a member of the El Dorado Auxiliary Police Department. Survivors include : his widow. Mrs. Georgia Lee Smith; three daughters, Charla, Chandra and Cynthia, all of the home; a son, Garry Smith of Franklin, La; mother, Mrs. Lonnie C. Smith of El Dorado; two brothers, David Paul Smith of El Dorado and Lonnie V. Smith of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Alton Vestal of Strong; and grandfather, W. T. Burnside of Lillie, La. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Young's Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Taylor officiating, assisted by the Rev. C. R. McCollum. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Pallbearers Will be Fred Davidson, Jr., John H. Davidson, John Kennedy, James Nordmeyer, Roy Hollier and R. E. Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the El Dorado Auxiliary Police Department. (The El Dorado Times - March 25, 1966)
