Helen Erica Larson Martin was born May 22, 1917, in Omaha, NE to Swedish immigrants, John and Emma Sundstrom Larson, and passed away peacefully at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS on June 20, 2009.

She attended grade school at Clifton Hill, and high school at Benson High, both in Omaha. After graduating from high school in 1935, she enrolled in Bethany-Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) in Bethany, OK. Helen graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1939. She worked her way through college in the business office and was employed as secretary to the business manager following graduation. From 1942 until 1952 she had civil service appointments with the Civil Aeronautics Administration and Social Security Administration in Oklahoma City, OK; Omaha, NE; and Huntington Park, CA. In 1952 became secretary to the Board of General Superintendents at the International Headquarters of the Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, MO.

It was while on that assignment that she met Rev. Theodore E. Martin of Hammond, IN. They were married May 11, 1957, at First Church of the Nazarene, Kansas City, MO.

Helen is survived by two stepchildren, Judith Henske of Beaverton, OR, and Theodore E. Martin, Jr., of Hermitage, TN; four grandchildren, Lori A. Calfy of Edmond, OK; J. Richard Martin, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; Emily Sullivan of Old Hickory, TN; and Paul Martin of Franklin, TN; and eight great-grandchildren; four Henske Step-Grandchildren; Elaine Miller of Bremerton, WA; Sharon Hickman of Humble, TX; Charles Henske of Penticton, BC, Canada; Dawn McAdams of Cosby, TX; 10 Great-Grandchildren, and Nine Great-Great-Grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Esther Haynes of Omaha, NE, and Ruth Hanisch of Fairmont, MN; two brothers, David Larson of Omaha, NE, and Paul Larson of Fallbrook, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hannah Wells, and Marie Kinzler, and stepson James R. Martin, Sr.
