MARTIN, John W. - John W. Martin died Monday night about seven o'clock at Lowell at the home of his father-in-law, J.W. Williams, with whom he has been living since his return from Southern Texas a few months ago. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at one o'clock at the C.P. church at Lowell and were conducted by Rev. Peter Carnahan. The body was brought to Rogers for interment in the city cemetery. A large number of Rogers friends and relatives attended the funeral. Mr. Martin's death was the culmination of years of struggle against consumption. By the advice of physicians he went to Arizona some three years ago in hope of ridding his system of the disease and he returned in the spring with the belief that he was much better. The relief was only temporary and he again went back to the dry climate of New Mexico and Texas. He failed rapidly however and when he came home in the spring he remarked that he was "only coming home to die." Monday night the end came. Mr. Martin was born January 13, 1869 in this section of Arkansas and has resided here all his life. He attended Rogers Academy several years and graduated in the class of '93. September 9, 1894 he married Miss Zelda Williams, daughter of J.W. Williams of Lowell. To them were born three children, two of whom are now living. By this marriage Mr. Martin is related to quite a number of our citizens. Mrs. Martin is a sister of Mrs. J.W. Walker and a niece of Uncle Tom McSpadden and Mrs. Cox.
