BENTONVILLE — James Lee "Jimmy" Harris, 70, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers. He was born May 21, 1942, in Bentonville, Ark., to Walter Lee Harris and Elizabeth Venters Harris.
Growing up in Vaughn, Jimmy attended grades 1 to 6 at the Vaughn School. He graduated from Bentonville High School in 1960, where he served as president of the student council and was captain of the basketball team. He worked for 44 years in the family business, Lee Harris Farms in Vaughn.
Jimmy was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville for many years and was actively involved, serving as the superintendent of Sunday school, serving on both the Session and Pastoral Search Committee, and volunteering in the food pantry.
He loved fishing and Texas Hold'em, was a strong supporter of Razorback basketball and football, and took great pride in caring for his yard. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren. His grandchildren lovingly called him "Pops." He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sherry Payton Harris, two daughters, Mary Beth Mann and husband, Jeff, of Rogers, Holly Lee Harris and husband, Kye, of Dallas; two stepsons, Steve Stowers of Bozeman, Mont., Jim Stowers and spouse, Craig DeWolfe, of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Beth Perkins and husband, Mike, of Vaughn; five grandchildren, Zachary Harris Mann of Rogers, Jackson Lee Hezekiah Harris, Campbell Jane Elizabeth Harris and Harper Rose Josephine Harris, all of Dallas, and Max Stowers-DeWolfe of Washington, D.C.; his loving cat, Henry; and many dear friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville with the Rev. Darwin Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Bentonville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in honor of Jimmy Harris to the American Lung Association, 211 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205 (http://www.lung.org) or to the First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville, Building Fund, 901 N.E. "J" Street, Bentonville, AR 72712.
