Edward Stockard Harris died in Rogers at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.G. Ford, Saturday, May 25th after an illness of more than a year of heart trouble. He had spent much of his time in the home of Mrs. Ford but had improved and returned to his home in Row, Okla. until last Thursday when Lon Harris and Mrs. Ford went to Oklahoma and brought him to Rogers. While he suffered he was up and about the house and was found dead in the porch swing where his daughter had talked to him a few minutes before. He fell asleep without a struggle as he had often expressed the desire to die. Mr. Harris was 74 years old. Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the home of Mrs. H.G. Ford, conducted by Rev. Wm. Lee Edwards as Mr. Harris was a member of the Christian church of Row, Okla. Burial was in the Rogers cemetery. Mr. Harris was born at Wood River, Ill. Dec. 26, 1854. His mother died when he was six years of age and his father died when he was 16 years old. He then went to Shannon Co., Mo. to the home of his grand parents, Meeds Harris, traveling alone on horse back by a little map. There he met and married Rosetta Jane Cook on December 16, 1877 at Salem, Mo. She died three months ago in Rogers. To this union were born Mrs. H.G. Ford, Mrs. Effie L. Stires, Mrs. J.W. Grimes and Lon and Earl Harris of Rogers; Mrs. J.W. Fanning of Carthage, Mo.; Mrs. Dana C. Pritchard of Kansas City, Mo.. All children were here except Mrs. Pritchard who could not attend on account of illness. Mr. Harris leaves eight grandchildren and one great grandson, Richard Paul Fanning, who attended the funeral. He came to Rogers with his family in 1894 and much of his time since was spent in Benton and Carroll counties, going to Row, Okla. eleven years ago where he served as Justice of the Peace until his death.
