FUNERAL WAS HELD FRIDAY FOR VETERAN MINISTER
Funeral services for the Rev. George C. Harris, aged 86, retired veteran Baptist minister, who died early Thursday at his home southeast of Bentonville following a serious illness of many months’ duration, were held Friday afternoon at the Callison Funeral Home at Rogers, conducted by the Rev. J.W. Royal, pastor of the Rogers Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. L.C. Tedford, pastor of the Bentonville Baptist Church. Hymns were sung by a quartet from the choir of the Rogers Baptist Church, and the pallbearers were Will Puckett, Bill Keith, and Leslie Scott of Rogers, and Fred Allred, Jim Drummond, and Everett Russell of Bentonville.
Mr. Harris was born at Cadiz, Trigg County, Kentucky, Aug. 17th, 1850. He was married to Miss Martha Leib, who survives him, on Sept 25,th, 1884. He began his ministerial work 65 years or more ago, and had been active in church work in this section for a half century. Much of his ministry was devoted to county missionary work in Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas and a part of his service as missionary and pastor was on the West Coast.
Besides his aged wife, who also has been an invalid for a long time, Mrs. Harris is survived by one son, Elmer Harris of near Bentonville, and by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is survived also by one brother, Peter Harris, of Mt. Vernon, Ill.
