HARRIS, Melvina COOK - Melvina Cook was born in the state of {?} Carolina August 11, 1847 and with her father, mother, one sister and three brothers, moved by a one-horse wagon to Salem, Dent Co., Mo. At Montank, Mo. June 22, 1879 she was married to Henry M. Harris. They moved to Alton, Ill. in the year 1893. Her husband died at Alton, Ill. Oct. 14, 1894. Her father died the opening year of the Civil War; her mother died seven years ago in June. She had three sisters and four brothers; three brothers are living in Dent Co., Mo. Her only surviving sister is Mrs. Rosa J. Harris, who made her home with the deceased and tenderly cared for her during her illness and death, assisted by her daughters and neighbors. Five years ago she came to Rogers, Ark. to make her home with the sister, whom she leaves behind to mourn her death. During her great suffering she prayed often for death and said she was not afraid to go. She died at her home in Rogers at 7 a.m. August 27, 1915, aged 68 years and 16 days of Bright's Disease and dropsy complications. She confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized 27 years ago in Dent Co., Mo., her home at that time, uniting with a little country church. Her funeral was conducted at her home Au-gust 27 at 4 p.m. by Rev. Jesse Heins, assisted by A.D. Callison. Her sister, Rosa J. Harris and her nephew, Lon Harris of Rogers were present at her funeral as were a host of friends and neighbors. Interment was made in the Rogers cemetery.
