R.M. Johnson, best known to our people as "Uncle Dick," died Monday afternoon at his home in this city on North Third Street. Mr. Johnson had been in failing health for the past year and his condition had been considered serious for several weeks. Old age and general debility was the cause of his death. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church and were conducted by Dr. Green of Lowell, a life long friend of the deceased. Mr. Johnson was eighty years, four months and nine days old and was a native of Mississippi. He came to Arkansas the year after the war and settled in Benton county where he had ever since made his home. For many years he owned the Osage Springs farm, four and one-half miles southwest of Rogers, selling some fifteen years ago to Willis Miller. He then moved to Bentonville where he lived about five years and then ten years ago came to Rogers. He was married to Miss Martha Robinson in the south part of this state and to them were born eight children, seven of whom are still living and are as follows: Mrs. W.N. Stewart of Pea Ridge, W.T. Johnson of Rogers, J.R. Johnson of Pea Ridge, S.B. Johnson of Belle Fourch, S.D., Mrs. J.T. Locke, Rogers, T.R. Johnson, Rogers, Mrs. Cole
McSpadden, Rogers. His wife also survives him. By the death of Mr. Johnson the county loses one of its oldest citizens and a man who has been a valued friend and neighbor. Until failing health confined him to the house Mr. Johnson took an active interest in all the questions of county and state and was very popular among his own circle of associates. For many years he was one of the leading farmers of the county and the news of his death will be learned with regret throughout the entire east end of the county.
