Friday, May 24, 1918
PHILLIPS, John Emery - John E. Phillips, good citizen and enterprising farmer residing 7 miles southeast of town, died last Thursday at his home following a few days affliction from inflammatory rheumatism. He leaves a wife and several children. Burial was at Bethel, Rev. J.A. Fair conducting the funeral. Obituary later.

John Emery Phillips was born in Ohio June 5, 1874 and died at his home 7 miles southeast of Gravette May 13, 1918 aged 44 years, 11 mos. and 8 days. When but a child he moved to Benton county, Ark. with his parents and spent most of his life here. He was a good citizen and neighbor, kind husband and father and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Altho not a member of a church he believed in Christ and his loved ones hope to meet him where parting comes no more. He leaves a wife and ten children, all of whom were with him at the time of his death.
