NICHOLS, Leona - Bentonville friends and acquaintances learned with deep regret of the death of Miss Leona Nichols which occurred Tuesday morning at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Nichols, near Hiwasse. Although it was known that her condition had been critical for many days it was hoped that after her four months of suffering and the determined fight she had made with every possible help of parents, family and physicians, she yet might recover. (The notice in The Record mentions that she had had an operation for appendicitis on Nov. 28 and had never fully recovered. Ed.) Miss Leona Nichols was born January 26, 1909 near Hiwasse and died Feb. 10, 1925, aged 16 years and two weeks, her death coming as a great grief to all those whom she had been associated with in school and elsewhere. Besides her parents she is survived by one brother and one sister, Lloyd and Velma Nichols, her grandmothers, Mrs. Mary Nichols and Mrs. J.D. Bates, and a large number of other relatives among them her aunt, Mrs. Bert Douglas of Bentonville and her cousin, Miss Agnes Nichols, of the Benton Co. Hdwe. Co. office, Bentonville. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. S.A. Morton of the Christian church, Bentonville, were held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 11th at 1:30 o'clock at the Mount Pleasant church near her home and interment made in the Mount Pleasant cemetery where beautiful flowers mark her resting place.

Mrs. Bert Douglas attended the funeral of her niece, Miss Leona Nichols, near Hiwasse Wednesday. Others from here who attended the funeral were Misses Agnes, Eva and Edith Nichols and Florine Todd, cousins of the deceased, Mrs. Reed Adcock and Rev. Stephen Morton and son, Craig.
