Died at his home on Pea Ridge, Ark. October 3, John G. Walker, in the 79th year of his age. The deceased was born in Bedford county, Tennessee October 11, 1828. Came to Benton county, Ark. in 1851; was married to Sarah A. Pace October 21, 1857. To them were born nine children, two sons and seven daughters, all living but one daughter, who died in infancy. More than forty years ago his health failed him and it seemed that he could live only a short time. The burden of his prayer was that he might live to raise his children to a state above helplessness. His prayer was answered. Though greatly afflicted and a great sufferer, he and his beloved companion managed to raise their children to respected manhood and womanhood, except one, little Annie, who was born helpless and must always be so. Brother Walker professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ more than 50 years ago and united with the C.P. church. He lived a consistent Christian life and was faithful to his church vows. His end was triumphant. God's grace through all of these years of affliction and in the hour of death was sufficient for him. Many relatives, friends and neighbors attended the funeral service held at the residence, and according to his request, under a favored shade tree, where for years in the summer and fall seasons he had passed so much of his time reading, meditating, praying and often rejoicing. His remains rest in the Hickman cemetery May the grace of the blessed Jesus be with the family and friends. P. Carnahan.
