Hearl Edward Sherrell of Oxford, son of the late William Robert and Ollie Myrtle McCurley Sherrell, was born on April 14, 1916, in Brockwell. He died on April 1, 2002 in Melbourne. He was 85.
Mr. Sherrell was united in marriage to Mildred Davis and to this union five children were born. He lived in Izard County all of his life. During his working years, he made a living as a farmer. Mr. Sherrell was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Bernice Sherrell of Oxford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Shelby Gillihan of Melbourne; Dula and Edward Singleton of Oxford; Kathy and Marshall Shaw of Oxford; five brothers, Cecil Sherrell of Brockwell; Dale Sherrell of Oxford; Darrell Sherrell of Oxford; Harlan Sherrell of Lone Lane, Missouri and Shelby Sherrell of Myron; one sister, Armilda Everett of Oxford; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; two brothers, Lloyd Sherrell and Vearl Sherrell; one sister, Oma Robbins; three grandsons, Shane Dockins, Billy Gillihan, Dwayne "Sap" Singleton; one great granddaughter, Jessica Ballard.
Funeral services were held April 3, 2002 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Ralph Allmon and Author Barber officiating. Pall bearers were David Sherrell, Greg Sherrell, Paul Gillihan, Sharron Dockins, Cassie Hall and Casey Shaw.
Interment was at Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
