James Harlin Sherrell, son of the late Robert William Sherrell and Myrtle McCurley Sherrell, was born March 25, 1936 in Oxford, Arkansas. He departed this life December 6, 2012 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 11 days. He attended Oxford High School where he excelled in basketball. He spent his life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. During his working years, he was employed by Ford Motor Company, retiring after 34 years of employment. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
He is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law: Linda and Curtis Childers of Batesville and Connie and Rocky Campbell of Melbourne; the mother of his children: Mary Gaye Gillihan of Mountain Home; two brothers: Darrell Sherrell of Oxford and Shelby Sherrell of Myron; eleven grandchildren: Tonya Gilpatrick, Brooke Clark, Mary Richardson, Megan Bridgman, Rusty Campbell, Maggie Churchwell, Stefan Sherrell, Scottie Sherrell, Anna Sherrell, William Sherrell, Ashley Sherrell; sixteen great grandchildren: Shelby & Jodi Gilpatrick, Ayden Campbell, Bailey George, Lawson Churchwell, Kenndi & Kody Clark, C.J. , Brianna and Michael Masson, Logan, Mitchell, Gregory, Brianna Sherrell, Ava and Zoey Sherrell and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Michael Sherrell and Scott Sherrell; five brothers: Lloyd, Vearl, Hearl, Cecil, and Dale Sherrell; two sisters: Oma Robbins and Armilda Everett and one grandson: Corey Masson.
Funeral service will be Saturday, December 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Rick Burke officiating. Burial will be at Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Friday, December 7 from 6-8 p.m.
Pallbearers: Russell Sherrell, Randy Sherrell, Alan Sherrell, David Sherrell, Timmy Sherrell, and Don Johnson.
