OXFORD — James Harlin Sherrell, 76, of Oxford died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in Melbourne.
Born March 25, 1936, in Oxford, he was the son of Robert William Sherrell and Myrtle McCurley Sherrell. He attended Oxford High School, where he played basketball. He was employed by Ford Motor Company, retiring after 34 years of employment. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Childers of Batesville and Connie Campbell of Melbourne; two brothers, Darrell Sherrell of Oxford and Shelby Sherrell of Myron; 11 grandchildren, Tonya Gilpatrick, Brooke Clark, Mary Richardson, Megan Bridgman, Rusty Campbell, Maggie Churchwell, Stefan Sherrell, Scottie Sherrell, Anna Sherrell, William Sherrell and Ashley Sherrell; and 16 great-grandchildren, Shelby Gilpatrick, Jodi Gilpatrick, Ayden Campbell, Bailey George, Lawson Churchwell, Kenndi Clark, Kody Clark, C.J. Masson, Brianna Masson, Michael Masson, Logan Sherrell, Mitchell Sherrell, Gregory Sherrell, Brianna Sherrell, Ava Sherrell and Zoey Sherrell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael Sherrell and Scott Sherrell; five brothers, Lloyd Sherrell, Vearl Sherrell, Hearl Sherrell, Cecil Sherrell and Dale Sherrell; two sisters, Oma Robbins and Armilda Everett; and a grandson, Corey Masson.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Rick Burke officiating. Burial will be in Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be Russell Sherrell, Randy Sherrell, Alan Sherrell, David Sherrell, Timmy Sherrell and Don Johnson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight.
