Life-Long Resident of This Vicinity Passes Away
Mrs. Sophronia Whitfield Sanders aged 85, life-long resident of this vicinity, passed away at her home near Pineville, Sunday morning, March 24, 1946.
She was born near Pineville April 8, 1860. She was married to Elihu Sanders on November 20, 1878. After her marriage she moved with her husband to a farm within two miles of her birthplace, where she resided the remainder of her life. She was converted early in life and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and lived a devout member until called by death. Practically all of her long and useful life was spent in the neighborhood of her children.
Mrs. Sanders was the mother of three sons and five daughters. All of whom survive, as follows; J. E. Sanders, Rodney, Ark.; D. M. Sanders and L. W. Sanders of Pineville; Mrs. Ludia Jennings, Calico Rock; Mrs. Mary Stephens, Mrs. Bertha Marshall and Mrs. Zora Ross of Pineville and Mrs. Elsie Ross of Shields, Kansas. Also surviving are three brothers, Rev. Y. Whitfield of Pineville, Jasper Whitfield of Little Rock, and Casey Whitfield of Kansas City and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Moody of Pineville and Mrs. Alice Clark of Cash, Ark.
The funeral was held Monday, services being conducted by Rev. Y. Whitfield. Burial was in the Wayland Arbor cemetery with the Higginbotham Funeral Home in Charge.
