LOCATION: Location provided by Cpt. Jeff Lewis, Baxter County Sheriff Dept.
The very old Hensley Smith Cemetery is located in a field, at the bottom of the hill, to the North side of Baxter CR 57, about 1/4 mile W of the intersection of CR 57 and CR 618. It's on the opposite side of the road from the farm that has the large white fence along the roadway. You cannot see Hensley Smith Cemetery from the roadway, and you cannot drive to it. It is 1,000’ north of CR 57

“This cemetery is very old, several headstones have been carried away by persons unknown. One that was known to have been there had the name William A. Ridgeway. Several Smiths are buried there without headstones ( Anna Hamm wife of Hensley Smith, Joseph Hensley Smith and Ella Barton wife of Joseph)..”

CONDITION: The cemetery is completely overgrown for years with many broken limbs and down trees. Has a chain link fence around the 100’ x 200’ parameter with a double gate. This cemetery is scheduled for cleaning by Baxter County Sheriff Department Inmate Cemetery Clean-Up Program in the fall of 2011.

AGE: Oldest readable stone is 1853. Most recent gravestone 1882.
