COOTS CEMETERY *

LOCATION: Coots Cemetery is located southwest of Caloco Rock just west of the Baxter-Stone county boundary. From Calico Rock take SR5 across the White River bridge and travel 2 miles south to the intersection of CR53. Travel west on CR53 approximately 3 miles to the intersection of CR73. Turn west on CR73 and trav el .3 miles to CR131. Take CR131 south for .8 mile. On the west side of the road was a burnt manufactured home and a barn. Approximately 400’ west of the road is a small clump of trees. The cemetery surrounds the trees. All gravestones have been knocked over so the cemetery is not seen from the road. The cemetery is in an open field with no fencing for the cemetery.

NOTE: Only source for this cemetery was the USGS TOPO map which labeled the “cem” as Coets. Once surveyed and based upon the gravestones found it is felt the USGS map was in error and the correct name for this cemetery is Coots.

CONDITION: Per the USGS TOPO map this cemetery was 120’ x 80’. Field stones or portions of field stones surround the trees. This cemetery is abandoned in an open grazing field. Gravestones are all on the ground with some broken..

AGE: Oldest readable stone 1910. Most recent is 1929.
