The Messick Cemetery is located on property now belonging to the Albrights. It is located in a pasture about 200 yards to the South of Baxter CR 6 (also known as Tucker Cemetery Road), about 2/10th of a mile East of Baxter CR 710. Coordinates: 92.45868W 36.31632N It is visible from the roadway, but there is no access by vehicle. You have to walk to it. It is surrounded by a wire fence. It is completely overgrown and in sad shape. When I visited, there was only one (1) headstone visible, and it was sunken halfway into the ground. I believe it dates from the 1870's. There is one other small, rectangular slab at the Southwest corner of the fence, but there are no markings on it. Other sources indicate there are several burials from the Messick and Young families here.
Baxter Historical Society: It is a very old and contain 32 graves, but only two are marked (1994). It was surveyed by Whiteville Extension Homemakers Club in April 1968.
Second grave listed but not found during our inspection:
Mahala Frizzell March 26, 1809 - August 3, 1861.
This cemetery was completed on September 26, 2009
