Mrs. Hester G. Smothers, 91, of Olathe, KS, a native of the Buford community and a resident of this county for most of her life, died Sunday at a Kansas City, MO, hospital. She was the widow of John Smothers and a member of the Worldwide Church of God.
Mrs. Smothers was born April 2, 1881, the daughter of Joseph Lovelady and Betty Knight Lovelady. She lived in Baxter County until 1948 and was widowed in 1951.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Smothers of Kansas City, KS and Howard Smothers of Olathe; three daughters, Mrs. Blanche Carver and Mrs. Josie Tinnon, both of Cotter, and Mrs. Cecelia Moore of Mt. Home; a brother, Charles Lovelady of Mt. Home; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Cecil Battles of Springfield, MO, conducted the funeral service here yesterday at McClure-Smith Chapel. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery at Buford under the direction of the McClure-Smith Service. Pallbearers were Pleas Lovelady, Louis Knight, Wallace Covington, Joe Stancil, Clinton Stancil and Lloyd Stancil.
