Son of James Franklin "Frank" & Emma Frances Murphy Smothers.

Clarence R. Smothers, 75, of Springfield, MO, a former resident of Baxter County, died Tuesday of last week at a Mount Vernon, MO, hospital, following a long illness.
A retired custodian, Mr. Smothers move to Springfield a year ago from Kansas City, KS. He was a member of the Church of Christ. The son of Frank and Emma Smothers, he was born here on March 22, 1898.
Survivors include a son, James R. and a daughter Mrs. Norma J. Kindle, both of Kansas City, KS; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Kelly and Mrs. Tressie Sullivan, both of Springfield and Mrs. Jessie Whiteman of Raytown, MO; nine grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at the Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel, Springfield, with Rev. Ken Dubose officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Home Cemetery.
