WILLIAMS, Philip Roy - Lieut. Philip Roy Williams, U.S.A., was born May 21, 1885. He died of influenza-pneumonia while in the aviation corps at Gerstner Field, Lake Charles, La., Nov. 25, 1918. He enlisted in the Regular Army in 1907 and since that time has served continuously. Four years were spent in Army Police duty in the Hawaiian Islands, and later he was sent to the Mexican border where he was awarded a medal for distinguished service. His unusual ability in dealing with fresh recruits won for him repeated promotions until at his death he was a first lieutenant, his record being among the highest of the rank. Deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Emma Williams of Monte Ne, Ark. He also has six sisters: Leta Jackson, Calico Rock, Ark.; Neva Jackson, Essingham, Kan.; Dottie Goodson, Prairie City, Ill.; Nettie Powell, Springdale, Ark.; Pearl Eckelfield, Kansas City, Mo.; Lillie Gregor, Rogers, Ark.; Bessie Brewer, Monte Ne, Ark. Besides these, there is one brother, Charles, of Monte Ne, Ark. The body was accompanied to Rogers by Lieutenant J.S. Bworschak of the Aviation Corps, Gerstner Field. Funeral services were conducted Monday by Rev. R.B. Guthrie of the Presbyterian church. He was buried with military honors, the tribute being paid by the Rogers Home Guard under command of Lieutenant Russel E. Sharp.
