WILLIAMS, Washington - Washington Williams, one of the early settlers of this section, died last Thursday, October 12th in a hospital at Osawatomie, Kansas, the result of a stroke of paralysis. He had been in poor health for a number of years. The body was brought to Rogers Saturday and interment made in the city cemetery beside the graves of his wife and son. Services were conducted at the grave by Rev. P.A. Lark of the Central M.E. church. Mr. Williams was born February 3, 1850 in Lawrence Co., Mo. and came to Benton county with his parents in 1866, living on what is known as the Plater farm, west of Rogers near the H.W. Gipple home. He was one of a family of sixteen, eight boys and eight girls, and is survived by one brother, John W. Williams of Lowell and five sisters, Mrs. E.A. Duval of Ventura, Calif.; Mrs. A. Nelson, Kamiah, Idaho; Mrs. L.E. Cox, El Reno, Okla.; Mrs. D.B. Huffman of Verona, Mo. and Mrs. C.A. McSpadden of Oakley Chapel. He was an uncle of J.T. and J.C. McSpadden of this city. He was married to a Miss Lattimer of Boonville, this state, who had lived near here, and to them were born three children. Arden, the oldest son, died in 1894 and Mrs. Williams in 1904. The only daughter, Mrs. C.B. Caudle of East St. Louis, was here with her husband for the funeral, as was the other son, Dwight Williams and wife of Wichita, Kan., with whom Mr. Williams had been making his home the last year or two. Mr. Williams was one of the first business men of Rogers and engaged in several lines, running a grocery store for a number of years. Leaving here he went to East St. Louis 23 years ago and engaged in the stock yard and commission business with much success. He retired from business a number of years ago. He is well remembered by our older residents and his death calls to mind the early pioneer days of our little city when everyone knew everyone else and the community was like one big family.
