MRS. VOL WALKER PASSES AT 10 A.M.

Wife of Well Known Lawyer, Daughter of Pioneers;
Funeral Tomorrow at 2

Mrs. Nancy Cravens Walker, daughter of the late Col. and Mrs. J. L. Cravens, Arkansas pioneer residents, and wife of the late Vol Walker, widely known Northwest Arkansas attorney, died at her home, 347 Washington Avenue here today. The University of Arkansas library is named in memory of her late husband.

Death was caused from heart failure and came at 10 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Walker had been seriously ill for more than two weeks with no hope for her recovery during the past few days.

Her funeral will be as she wished, a quiet one at the home. It will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Samuel H. Rainey, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, of which she was a member, will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Jerome Reynolds, Norman McCartney, Tom Pearson, Raymond Harbison, James R. Greer and Allan Wilson.

Of a retiring disposition, disliking any sort of display, Mrs. Walker had a distinct distaste for "funeral pieces." She loved cut flowers and living plants and said only recently, "When I die, tell those who wish to send flowers, to send them to the living at the hospital."

She had no dread of the end and talked freely to her family of her belief that she would not recover.

She leaves a son, Randall, at the home; a sister-in-law, Miss Sue Walker who has been ill for sometime; two sisters, Mrs. O.L. Cravens of Fayetteville and Mrs. Link Gregg of Memphis; a brother, Hal Cravens of Fayetteville; two nieces and a nephew; Mrs. Clive Lane of Fayetteville; Mrs. Howard Magruder of Washington, and Russell Gregg of Memphis.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Gregg arrived here Saturday night, Mrs. Walker having expressed the wish that her illness "not spoil their Christmas" and asking them to wait until after Christmas Day to come to her bedside.

There are surviving also several great nephews and nieces; Robert and Nancy Lane of Fayetteville; Frances, Emily and Mary Gregg of Memphis, and William Howard Magruder and Russell Gregg Magruder of Washington, D.C. Both Nancy Lane and Nancy Gregg are namesakes.

The late Will Cravens was a brother.

Mrs. Walker's mother was the late Mrs. Caroline Williams Cravens of Kentucky who made a covered wagon trip to California back in Forty-Nine. Her father, a native Missourian, was a prominent resident of this section for many years. Both parents lived in Fayetteville many years and were prominent in all activities of the community.

Mrs. Walker was an unusually strong and sturdy character, upon whom other members of the family leaned heavily. Until her recent illness she never had been seriously ill in her life. Deeply beloved by all who knew her, the entire Christmas period was saddened for close friends and neighbors who called off all holiday activities.

Several club meetings scheduled for this week have been postponed in tribute to her memory.
