Son of Samuel F & Eliza G Dickson Woods
Born Bentonville AR
Died Hiwasse AR

*Benton County Democrat*
January 25, 1912

Died, January 18th, 1912 at his home near Hiwasse, Benton county, Arkansas. J.S. E. Woods in the fifty-fourth year of his age. Deceased was born three miles east of Bentonville, September 8th, 1858. His parents, Samuel and Eliza G. Woods, were among the first settlers of Benton county and the place first settled by his grandfather, Samuel Woods, now owned by N. P. Woods, was the place of his birth. His childhood and youthful days were spent in this home and his early education, training and religious instructuion he received in this community. About forty years ago he made a public profession of faith in Christ as his Savior. August 8th, 1868 he was married to Miss C. A. Hansard. Ten children were born to this union, all living and residing as follows: Mrs. Bell Lambert, Pea Ridge, Ark.; S. D. and George H. Woods, Sulphur Springs, Ark.; Frank W. Woods, Neosho, Mo.; Mrs. Minnie Bates, E. P. Woods, Miss Pearl and Letha Woods, Hiwasse, ark.; William and Carl. This large family, by the efforts of the parents and the assistance given by the older members of the family to those younger, have been raised up in such a way as to command the respect of the community in which they live, commended for the industry, frugality, civil, social and religious principles and practices. The deceased was one of the most inoffensive, civil and unobtrusive characters I ever knew. He had been very much afflicted for several years. About a week before he died he was stricken with paralysis and was helpless until the end. The funeral service was held two and one-half miles west of Hiwasse at the Edwards Church and notwithstanding the almost impassable condition of the roads, both for vehicles and those on foot, the large church was crowded with sympathizing neighbors and friends. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church, there to await the command of Him who is the "resurrection and the life." May the sorrowing companion and children and kindred all have ths supporting grace and comforting spirit of the blessed Lord in this sad bereavement. P. Carnahan

*Benton County Democrat*

Died, May 1st, 1914 at ther home near Hiwasse, Benton county, Arkansas, Mrs. Lottie Woods, aged 63 years and two months. Deceased was born in Cedar county, Mo. March 1st, 1851. Came to Benton county, Ark. with the family in her girlhood. Was married to Azer Woods (deceased) August 9th, 1868. To this union were born 10 children - six sons and four daughters. She is survived by her brothers - Thos. Hansard of Grayson, Texas and Geo. Hansard of Siloam Springs, Ark. - and her 10 children - Mrs. Bell Lambert of Pea Ridge; Mrs. Minnie Bates, Elbert Woods, Miss Pearl Woods, Wm. Woods and Miss Letha Woods of Hiwasse; Dee and George Woods of Sulphur Springs; and Frank and Carl Woods of Neosho, Mo. All the children met with her at her home March 1st in a happy reunion. Some 20 years ago she and her husband began to make this home in an unbroken forest. In the course of events, much of the management and improvement of the home fell upon the the mother, who, with the children, by untiring industry and economy had succeeded in building up a comfortable and self-sustaining home. Her affliction was of a malignant nature and her suffering hastened her death. Her hope and faith were in the Lord Jesus Christ and her death calm and peaceful. The large congregation attending the funeral, which was held at Mount Pleasant Church, testified to the esteem in which she was held by her friends and neighbors. The remains were buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. May the children and kindred all find in the blessed Christ the peace which He only can give. P. Carnahan
