WOODS, S.C. - Died, February 11, 1910 at the Electric Springs near Rogers, Ark., S.C. Woods, in the 42nd year of his age. The deceased, a son of R.D. and Lucy Woods, was born three miles east of Bentonville September 18, 1869. In this community he received his early education and religious instruction. In 1887 he was married to Miss Mamie Hayes. Four children, two sons and two daughters, were born to them, all living and in helpless childhood. For many years he was a sufferer from tuberculosis. His struggle for restoration to health, that despaired of, for prolongation of life, was heroic. His devoted companion, for several years of this time, was also an invalid. Availing themselves of the best medical aid within their power, traveling and changing climates proved successful for Mrs. Woods but was of little or no avail in his case. Last fall, realizing that there was little hope of his recovery, he returned to his old home and kindred, so dear to him by the ties of association and the ties of blood and nature, to die and leave behind him his companion and helpless children. For years, doubtless, he had been a Christian but had never made public profession or united with the church. It was the privilege of the writer to receive him into the church and administer to him the sacrament of baptism. Those who were present will never forget the "joy of salvation" manifested and expressed by him on that occasion; his willingness and desire to "depart and be with Christ." The writer, assisted by Bro. Easley, conducted the funeral service in the Little Flock church. Many of his kindred and life long friends were present in token of their esteem for the departed and in sympathy for the bereft. The remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground at the home of Bro. J.N. Woods, where a goodly number of his loved ones are "sleeping in Jesus." May the Holy Spirit comfort the bereft loved ones and may the Christian community extend a helping hand to this needy family. P. Carnahan.
