JOHNSON, Jim - (from The Fayetteville Daily, Friday] Sheriff Oxford returned today from Rhea's Mill where he went to investigate the killing of Jim Johnson by his brother, John Johnson on Wednesday. The sheriff ascertained the following facts: Jim Johnson had been living four miles northeast of Rhea for nine years. John and Tom lived with their father on the Springdale and Head's ford road. Recently Jim traded for a piece of land about a quarter from Rhea's Mill and the old man and his family, including his wife and sons, John and Tom, had gone down to build a house. The father and three sons went to the land Wednesday and a disagreement arose over the selection of a site for the house. John said he would not live where Jim wanted the house located and they became angry. The father, seeking to prevent a difficulty, asked Jim to go with him and they started off together when John said something that the father did not understand but which so enraged Jim that he turned around, returned to John and kicked him. The latter took an ax from the wagon and struck Jim in the side with the blade, killing him almost instantly. On realizing what he had done he was greatly affected. He left the others and went to Jim's home where he took supper. He told his mother that he and Jim had had a little trouble and he had cut Jim a little but did not hurt him seriously. When it got dark he left without notifying the family where he was going. He is still at large. They are related to the family of Col. Jim Johnson of Wesley.
