Born & Died February 22, 1943, West Plains, Howell County, Missouri.
Daughter of Hugh O. & Bernice Burns Cooper.
The Salem Headlight, Salem, Arkansas, February 26, 1943:
Mrs. Hugh Cooper Succumbs in West Plains Hospital
The entire citizenship of Salem and Fulton county was shocked to hear of the untimely death of Mrs. Hugh Cooper, beloved wife of Rev. Hugh Cooper, pastor of the local Baptist church Monday in a West Plains hospital. Their infant daughter who was born on that day died shortly after the mother passed away. Her death was attributed to a hemorrhage of the brain.
Funeral services for this good woman and infant daughter will be held Saturday afternoon at the Baptist church here, with Rev. Delbert Garrett of Melbourne and Rev. Jack Lafferty of Harrison officiating. Burial will be in the Oxford cemetery.
Berniece Burns was born on June 30, 1907 at Franklin, Arkansas, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Burns, highly respected Izard county citizens. Both parents preceeded her in death. She received her education in schools in her native county and on May 14, 1932 she was married to Hugh Cooper. To this union were born three children, all of whom died in infancy.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of the Baptist church here and was a faithful worker. She was kind and affectionate, a devout christian and commanded the respect of all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Omey Taylor and Mrs. Aris (Iris) Rowden, both of Oxford, four brothers, Earl of Wiseman, Jessie of the U. S. Army in California, Hubert of Spokane, Wash. and Clarence of Monitor, Wash. and a number of other relatives.
The Headlight joins other friends of her husband and brothers and sisters in expressing our heartfelt sympathy.
