Carl G. Cooper, son of the late Leslie Golden Cooper and Violet Juanita Green Cooper, was born October 17, 1936 in Knob Creek, Arkansas. He departed this life May 10, 2015 in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 78 years, 6, months and 23 days. Carl’s teen and early adult years were spent in California, working construction and operating a crane. In 1965 he was united in marriage to Gay Lawrence and to this union two daughters were born. As an adult, he moved back to Izard County and became active in buying and selling real estate in Melbourne, Horseshoe Bend and the surrounding areas. Together with his brother Ben Cooper, they established Cooper Realty in Melbourne. Carl was an entrepreneur, buying, selling, partnering and often operating local businesses. He was active in community affairs, by serving as a board member or advisor. Carl also farmed, buying, selling and raising cows. On June 8, 1979, Carl was united in marriage to Carol Jeffery. He attended Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was baptized by Brother Charles Faith.
Carl is survived by his wife of 35 years: Carol Cooper of the home; one son: Steve Cooper; four daughters: Carla Cooper Jones of Melbourne, Holly Cooper Hancock of Melbourne, Holly Beth Potter of Melbourne and Jessica McClain (Shad) of Calico Rock; one brother: Bennie Cooper of Melbourne; eight grandchildren: Hayden Jones, Cooper Hancock, Autumn Jones, Lawrence Wheeler, Kegan Burns, Caleb McClain, Isaac McClain and Sam Potter; four great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Grover Hayden Cooper, Lonnie Green Cooper; two sisters: Willa Mae Graham and Bessie Ray Guthrie.
Funeral service will be Thursday, May 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Knob Creek Church with Wayne Wood officiating. Burial will be at Knob Creek Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 13 from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to: Knob Creek Cemetery Maintenance Fund, C/O Mildred Cheatham, P.O. Box 95, Melbourne, Arkansas.
Pallbearers: Shad McClain, Caleb McClain, Jim Cooper Gary Graham, Wally Guthrie, and Eddie Cooper.
